The 13th Century Château de Coppet was transformed into a residence in the 18th Century. It was a renowned venue for historians, writers, poets, economists, and intellectuals, who came together at this lakeside spot in Switzerland, at the end of the18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, under the influence and the inspiration of one extraordinary woman: Germaine de Staël.
Madame de Staël, daughter of the Finance Minister of King Louis XVI, shed light on the perception of her troubled times, from the French Revolution until the Restauration of the Monarchy, with her numerous writings and philosophical treatises on themes uncommon at that era; religion, feminism, economics, Europe, ... Liberty. On the grounds, in the park, and in the rooms of the Coppet Castle where you will dine, once gathered such brilliant minds as Chateaubriand, Lord Byron, Goethe, Benjamin Constant, and so many others. . . ‘The Coppet Group’ Napoléon so feared…
