La Turbie
& Eze Village
La Turbie & Eze Village (morning excursion half day) – Wednesday, September 2
La Turbie is one of the oldest villages, dating back from Roman times, always a strategic pass used by all warlords from Caesar to Napoleon;
In the 6th century BC the Roman senate decided to have this trophy raised at the key point of the border between Gaul and Italy to celebrate the victory of Augustus over the local Ligurian tribes.
Originally the trophy was 49 m high and supported a giant statue of the emperor. From the esplanade you discover the most breathtaking view over the principality of Monaco with the shore and headlands of the Italian Riviera in the background.
A few kilometers away, Eze is a fairytale village perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Mediterranean, with quaint narrow streets, beautiful ancient stone houses, and attractive handicraft shops.
On top of the village , in the ruined ancient fortress a surprising garden of cactuses peopled with statues offers the most stunning panoramic views over the coastline.
In the nearby Fragonard Perfumery you will be able to explore the secrets of perfume making from the first copper stills in use since the 4th century to the most modern techniques and learn the patient and mysterious art of the “Nose”.
